I’m a high school counselor in an economically disadvantaged district. The students that I work with largely come from underrepresented groups and are considered to be some of the most at risk students in my school. They struggle with school/class avoidance, limited executive functioning skills, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. My students and I work together on SEL and restorative practices while building/supporting academic goals. The items on my list will directly help support students with their social, emotional, and academic needs. I pride myself on making sure all of my students have what they need to feel loved and supported. I want them to have the tools and the skills they need to be successful in and outside the classroom. I may not be a traditional teacher or have a traditional classroom but what I do makes an impact. If you’re head and your heart aren’t in a good place it’s hard to show up and it’s even harder to learn. I truly appreciate your kindness & support. ??
