I am a special education teacher in Howell, NJ. I began my career as a general education teacher. I filled in as a leave replacement (as both a general education and resource teacher )in several districts over the course of six years, before finally finding my place here in Howell (where I actually also began as a leave replacement). After going out on maternity leave in January of 2020, our district shut down due to COVID and I came back to virtual learning with a 3 month old infant and 2.5 year old preschooler, now both stuck at home with myself and my husband (who was also working from home). After packing up my classroom, assuming I would be returning to my same resource position, I received a phone call that summer that I was being transferred to the Multiple Disabilities (MD) program in a completely new-to-me school in a completely new-to-me program. To say I was terrified was an understatement. I have now been a self-contained MD teacher for 5 years and it is safe to say that I absolutely love it.
