I have been loving and growing students in title 1 schools for 13 years. I started my career in Special Education, where my love of teaching began. I worked as a Special Education Teacher for seven years. This experience developed several strengths of mine. I found a passion and ability to reach struggling readers. I then moved on to teaching first grade, where I applied many strategies and explicit phonics instruction to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities, gifted students, and a high population of English Learners. I then made the tough decision to take some time off to stay home with my baby. Our wonderful student teacher took over my classroom the following year. I donated everything in my beautiful classroom to her so that she could have a the best start possible. I am now starting over at a wonderful school in first grade and my classroom is completely bare. Creating a cozy, inviting environment is an absolute must for students and teachers.
